In January 2022, all incoming and outgoing freight vehicles over the roll-on roll-off ports and the Channel Tunnel were registered in the Goods Vehicle Movement System.

Customs made arrangements for a number of shippers to manage the entire process so that cargoes are not delayed on either side of the English Channel. As of August 28, 2020, the system completed the beta test and became active in January 2021. The user test of this system was successful. The Goods Vehicle Movement Service (GVMS) is a UK government border control information technology system for coordinating the movement of vehicles. It is part of the measures taken by the government to deal with post-Brexit trade. It is estimated that the system needs to process 400 million customs declarations per year.
